Net Neutrality

http://ipower.ning.com/netneutrality2

This is sickening news. I am posting to spread awareness. Watch the video and do whatever you can to help net neutrality.

Google has started a project so that you can test whether you're being throttled, reaffirming it again as the best company ever.

Language Utility-Off

I'm back! But was I ever really gone? Not really; I just never updated, as per the first post.

On topic: Comparison of Java, C++, and C#. I will do this in the form of bulleted lists.

Java
Pros
  • Basically the easiest language to program in ever.
  • You don't have to control your own memory.
  • Works everywhere.
Cons
  • You don't have control over your own memory.
  • Slow.

C++
Pros
  • Near infinite control of everything you want.
  • Fast (if the programmer isn't daft).
  • Operator overloading is for the win.
Cons
  • Memory management is annoying.
  • Portability issues.

C#
Pros
  • Easier to program in than Java.
  • You don't have to control your own memory, but you still have the option to.
  • Fast (again, daftness notwithstanding).
  • Operator overloading is still for the win, although it's not as flexible as C++.
  • XNA Studio 2.0*
Cons
  • It only works on Windows, most of the time.

In conclusion, if you're programming in a Windows environment and use anything other than C#, you've made a mistake. C++ is powerful, Java is easy, and C# combines the two in a way that makes programming fun again.

*XNA Studio does for you everything that sucks to do yourself. Load a .jpg, .bmp, .png? In C++, find a library for each. In C# with XNA, BAM! Networking? Done. An entire rudimentary game engine given to you for free? Done. There's a decent chance I will be using this blog to document a game made using XNA studio in the relatively near future, so stay tuned.

Thoughts on Apple

My thoughts on the debate:

Me: why couldn't he play?
Friend: his Mactop is old
Friend: not an Intel
Friend: aka, no play
Me: mac...top?
Friend: MacBook
Me: oh my god
Friend: but a PowerPC Mac
Me: people buy those?
Friend: not an Intel Mac
Friend: so he can't run windows
Me: people buy those?
Friend: lol
Me: people buy those?
Me: that is D:
Friend: he does music/video stuff.
Me: irrelevant
Friend: hence getting it
Me: irrelevant
Me: people should NEVER EVER EVER EVER buy macs
Friend: plus, they pay his salary.
Friend: so for a 25% discount...
Me: even so
Me: that's 25% of his soul

Out of Context

I was watching the newest episode of American Gladiators today, and one contestant said so many things that struck me as odd that I couldn't justify not sharing them.
  • Every competition I take seriously for blood.
  • I tried to just keep her legs separated.
  • It's not the finest feeling to be sat on.
  • I'm ready to get busy. No other way to do it but to do it hardcore.
  • She caught up to me this time and I finished as strong as I could.
  • I'm gonna blast through it.
  • My prayers are pumping strong.
  • It feels phenomenal.
That is all.

The Best Day in History

After an amazing day of football, I can say two things.

First, this is the best day in history. Belichik running off the field and into the tunnel before the end of the game is the worst display of sportsmanship I've ever seen.

Second, this screenshot of Amazon strikes me as particularly profound on this day.

Writers' Strike

StrixVariaXIX: the writer's strike is gay
StrixVariaXIX: writers' strike*
StrixVariaXIX: well it makes sense either way
StrixVariaXIX: but only the first way if one person is striking
StrixVariaXIX: really, though, one person is striking
StrixVariaXIX: i was only talking about one of the office writers
StrixVariaXIX: the first time
StrixVariaXIX: then amended my statement
StrixVariaXIX: to include all the writers

That pretty much sums up my opinions on the matter. House is going to have an abbreviated season, nothing has been said about The Office, Scrubs wanted to end anyway, so this only gives it more of an excuse. Heroes, at least, ended (kind of). Overall, though, this has lasted entirely too long.

Yes, the writers deserve what they're asking for. Still, this needs to stop. Stop it, writers! I'm aspiring to be one of you, and right now you're ruining everything!
